Scent Classes for Dogs

Bobby, a Havanese, Qualifying in Novice Buried at his first AKC Scent Work Trial

Beginning Nose Work 1 - The Alert Indicator

Beginning Nose work classes in San Leandro, CA, focus on training scent. We teach the dog an  Alert Indicator such as a down and/or a sit to indicate odor. The Alert Indication is taught before teaching the Nose work search so that the dog knows the exact  behavior we want when he finds odor. Many methods start with search and  leave it up to the dog to figure out how to indicate that she has found the target odor to the handler. This can lead to a variety  of problems later, such as excessive scratching,  biting, barking and false alerting. By conditioning the Alert  Indication first we can bomb proof a dog's Alert behavior and improve  Scent dog searching behavior. The class is geared to both AKC Scent Work, NACSW k9 Nose Work and UKC Nosework.

How To Enroll

Second weekend out….Wink earned her SIN, SEN,SBN,SCN titles which gives her a SWN Scent Work Novice Title. She was awesome I still need some training. Special thanks again to Steve Bettcher , teacher and Deb Wigal, breeder. I guess we need to get back to training to compete in advanced.
