Dog Scent Training Classes

K9 Nosework in action with Audrey and Steve Bettcher in Their 1st NW2 Nose Work Trial in Livermore,

Beginning Nose Work 2 - Odor Discrimination

Once the dog has mastered the Alert Indication we introduce Nosework Odor  Discrimination. We start by adding a blank box and or tube along with  the operant scent box containing a cocktail of nosework scents that are used in nosework trials (Birch, Anise, Clove and Cypress). As the dog becomes proficient in this task we start adding  more scent items (boxes and various containers). We also begin Training scent detection from distance and independently of the handler.

At the Dog Scent Training phase the  dog should be finding the target odor from as many as 12 containers and indicating with a sit or down. Individual Scents  used in NACSW K9 Nose Work®, SDS Nosework and AKC Scent Work are  introduced in this phase of Dog Scent Training..

Scent Work Classes take Place at the San Lorenzo Dog Training Club

Dogs must have completed Beginning  Nose Work Class or by permission of the instructor.
